PANDORA’S BRIEFCASE
IllustrationMalcolm Gladwell’s article Pandora’s Briefcase covers the tale of “operation mincemeat,” a famed feat of espionage performed by British intelligence during the second world war that Gladwell uses to highlight the uncertainties involved in complex espionage. Here, another designer and I worked together to create a set of three spreads that gave form to the article, inspired by the moody, high contrast illustration and panel structure of noir comics.
My role in this project was to create the illustrations, where I focused on incorporating elements including paper textures, halftones, and dark inking to create that graphic illustration feel. The layout for this project was designed by my teammate, Yevheniia Trofimova. While focusing on our own roles, there was close collaboration throughout the project to ensure that the final spreads were cohesive.
